Multichoice Ghana and M-Net (West) recently organized a forum to meet with stakeholders from the Ghanaian content producing industry, to encourage the entry to the 2015 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards and to update them on the new developments by Africamagic for the Ghanaian market. The event which held in Accra was attended by representatives of the Ghanaian movie, music and TV industry and members of the country’s film and television regulatory agencies. The forum was also used as a platform to encourage Ghanaian film makers to submit their entries to the 2015 AMVCA.
The Africamagic Channel was represented by Efosa Aiyevbomwan, the Head of Public Relations & Talent Lead for Africa Magic and Lisa Ugheighele, a Marketing Executive who outlined the 3 new award categories for the AMVCA’s which includes the Best Movie West Africa as well as emphasized the importance of submitting work for the Awards by the deadline of 30th of October .
Mr Aiyevbomwan also touched on a dedicated 4 hour block of Ghanaian content on AfricaMagic World (DStv Channel and GOtv Channel 10 )as well as the confirmation of an Africa Magic desk and representative at the Multichoice office to ensure efficient liaison between with stakeholders and Africamagic and to assist with the acquisition and onward transmission of content from the country.
The event provided a platform for the various stakeholders to discuss critical issues like the acquisition and marketing of content, and the necessary copyright frameworks for intellectual property protection.
Speaking at the event, the General Manager, Multichoice Ghana, Mr. Cecil Sunkwa-Mills, said: “Multichoice has always supported the development and showcasing of Ghanaian entertainment content across the African content through M-Net. Over the years we have seen an increase in content on the various Africa Magic channels and ultimately with the introduction of the Ghana block, we look to expand the numbers considerably.” We are aware of the various challenges Ghanaian filmmakers face with the production and distribution of their content, however we do not want this to be the primary reason why we lose out on several awards at events like AMVCA, and this forum is one of the ways we look at to try to solve some of these issues. “
