Carrying a certain quantity of marijuana in some States in America is allowed so I was not really surprised at a post calling for the legalization of the substance by Ghanaian hiphop act and “king of the streets”, Kwaw Kese who is currently in the States. (Perhaps, one of such States)
However, on a second thought, I believed such a call should not come from him looking at how rough the past year has been for him with regards to his arrest and frequent appearance in court for smoking a substance which was alleged to be marijuana.
Yesterday, the artist shared a photograph of students who campaigned for his freedom during his struggle with the state and asked that Marijuana be legalized since cigarettes were more hazardous but allowed by law.
In his words, he said;
“Thanks to these #MadTimerS for that support when they arrested me for enjoying my choice of smoke. I think it’s time to legalize #Taaba so that those 80% who shhhmoke in Gh can enjoy their choice of smoke without any interventions!!! Why should a person be jailed for smoking when it’s their choice??? After all cigarettes are poisonous and harmful but it’s for sale!!! #legalize #Ntampee now !!! #Yakubu”
Today, there is a new twist to the story as Kwaw Kese has ‘apologized’ for his earlier call for the legalization of illegal substance marijuana in Ghana.
Hours ago, the artist took down the post which called for the legalization and posted a new one in which he apologizes for his earlier comments.
His apology however stems from the fact that his family is not happy about the post.(Which I find quite interesting)
“I am sorry for my early comments about #Natmpelegalization!!! Many are insulting and more misquoting. Am not advocating for anyone to go and smoke But I believe we all know a lot of us that smoke. My family not happy about the post, so I took it off”
